Our Story
Founded in Australia, Darkness & Desire Publishing was born from a gap in the industry—where emotionally intense, dark, and unconventional stories are too often overlooked or misunderstood.
As an author, I know what it means to pour everything into a manuscript and still question whether your voice truly belongs. This publishing house exists because I refused to believe that powerful stories should be ignored simply because they don't fit the mould.
We champion bold storytelling—dark romance, dark fantasy, thrillers, and more. Stories filled with tension, emotion, desire, and unforgettable characters. The kind of books that don't ask for permission to be seen.
Our mission is simple: to support authors with honesty, care, and creative respect while helping every manuscript reach its fullest potential.
Every manuscript we work on is a collaboration, not a number. We don't reshape voices—we refine them. We don't dilute stories—we strengthen them. Whether we're publishing a book or providing editorial support, our goal is always the same: to help authors tell the best version of their story.
We also know how overwhelming the publishing journey can be, especially when it comes to editing. Professional editing is one of the most important investments an author can make, but the industry isn't always transparent about pricing.
That's why we do things differently.
Our editing services are offered at clear, flat rates, giving authors confidence from the very beginning. No hidden fees. No confusing pricing models. Just honest, professional support for writers who want to self-publish, prepare for literary agents, or strengthen their manuscript before taking the next step.
As a publisher, we do NOT charge authors to publish. If we offer you a publishing contract, we invest in your book just as a traditional publisher would, covering the publishing services needed to bring your story to readers.
Our editing services exist for authors who are seeking independent editorial support, not as a requirement for publication.

What we DON’T Accept
At DDP, we welcome bold, intense and emotionally dark storytelling - but NEVER at the cost at the of safety or ethics.
There are firm, non-negotiable boundaries around the content we will never publish, support or consider.
We Do NOT Accept:
ANY romantic, sexual, or suggestive content involving MINORS.
This includes any scenario where a character under 18 is involved in, targeted for, implied in or placed within an adult romantic or sexual dynamic.
Stories that sexualize, exploit or endanger minors in any way.
This applies even if the content is framed as “Dark”, “Taboo,” “Edgey,” or “Shook factor.” DDP
is a Zero-tolerance house when it comes to anything involving children in adult themes.
Graphic harm toward minors.
( Non-sexual references to danger or past trauma MAY be considered on a case-by-case basis only when handled with maturity, purpose, and sensitivity. )
Hate speech or content created to demean, target or degrade groups of people.
Darkness & Desire Publishing celebrates dark themes, morally grey characters, obsession, villains, assassins, and romance that pushes boundaries - but we also protect our readers and uphold strict ethical standards.
Your story can be ruthless, emotional, brutal, sensual and twisted…

Not sure if we're the right fit? That's completely fair—handing your manuscript to someone new is a big deal. Submit the first 1,000 words and we’ll send back a fully tracked edit alongside our honest thoughts as both an editor and a fellow authors. What's working, what's not, and where your story could go further.

Get your free sample edit, simply email your submission to darkness.desire.publishing@gmail.com with the subject line ‘Sample Edit Request.’ Please include the first 1,000 words of your manuscript, formatted in Times New Roman, 1.5 line spacing. Feel free to include a line or two about your story—we would love to know about your world before stepping into it.
